Two plead guilty to stealing, disposing of fire hydrant

KUCHING, Aug 6: Two men pleaded guilty in the Kuching Magistrate’s Court today to disposing of a stolen fire hydrant.

The first was sentenced to a fine of RM1,000 or in default, one month’s jail time by Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar. The sentencing of the second who is aged under 21 is pending the court hearing the results of his social report, with the Welfare Department to tender the said report on Sept 3.

Mohd Syukri also allowed the second accused bail of RM500.

The two accused were charged with stealing and voluntarily assisting in the disposal of a fire hydrant belonging to the Fire and Rescue Department, at a metal industrial company located in Jalan Kong Ping on July 31, 2019.

They were charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code, read together under Section 34 of the same Code, which carries an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years or with a fine or with both, upon conviction.
