KUCHING, Sept 30: A 21-year-old jobless man who broke into an unoccupied house owned by the wife of a Sarawak Deputy Premier with the intention of committing theft was today fined RM1,500 and sentenced to two weeks in jail.
The man pleaded guilty to a house-trespassing charge when it was read before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali.
The court sentenced him under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of six months, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both upon conviction.
The court heard that the incident occurred at about 9.50am on Sept 24 at a house in Taman Sri Sena, Samariang, which had been unoccupied for about seven months.
The 65-year-old owner was not residing at the property during that period, and the accused allegedly targeted the house after believing it had been abandoned.
The break-in was discovered by the owner’s younger brother, who then alerted the police.
Police arrested the man the following day, Sept 25. During investigations, he admitted to entering the house with the intention of committing theft.
The court also ordered him to serve an additional month in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
