Two new Covid-19 cases pushes Julau into red zone

KUCHING, March 8: Julau was declared a Covid-19 red zone after registering two new Covid-19 cases today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said one of the cases was linked to the Bukit Tungal cluster while the second was detected through screening at a Julau health centre.

ā€œThe additional two new cases brings the total number of cases recorded in Julau to 42 cases in the past 14 days,ā€ it said.


SDMC added Bau and Kanowit improved to orange zone status after both districts recorded 38 and 22 infection cases respectively in the most recent 14-day period, while Belaga reported one new case which puts the district into yellow zone status.

According to the statement, eight districts namely Selangau, Betong, Meradong, Kuching, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu remain categorised as red zones with a total of 2,697 infections reported in the most recent two-week period.

Six districts namely Samarahan, Sarikei, Serian, Subis, Dalat and Sri Aman retained their orange zone status after reporting a total of 181 infections over the same period.

ā€œLundu, Bukit Mabong, Tatau, Marudi, Mukah, Pusa, Song, Asajaya, Beluru, Saratok and Sebauh stays with their yellow zone status with only 76 cases of infection, and the rest of the 11 other districts continue with their green status,ā€ the statement read. ā€” DayakDaily
