KUCHING, Feb 24: A total of 24 technical and vocational and education and training (TVET) experts will come together to brainstorm what are the best practices to develop talent in their respective field in order for them to be employable.

Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development II (Talent Development) Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said these experts have invited speakers from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines who will present and discuss topics that would benefit the industry in the future and the East ASEAN Growth Area (EAGA).

He said one of the objectives is to incorporate ‘must have’ 21st-century attributes and skills in TVET and facilitate the development of future-ready graduates in the field.

“The Sarawak government, among others, want to provide an opportunity for those school leavers who cannot go for tertiary education. TVET is to equip them with quality technical and vocational knowledge.

“This is one way to give our school leavers the opportunity to have the best qualifications and be employable in our industry that needs them,” he said.

“It also provides them all the opportunity to not only be employable in Malaysia, but also in Brunei, Inodonesia and the Phillippines,” he added.

Harden, who is also Simanggang assemblyman, revealed this at the press conference today on the 3rd BIMP-EAGA TVET conference 2023, which will be held from March 8 to 9.

Harden revealed that the conference will be officiated by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“It is expected that some 400 delegates will be attending and the theme at this year’s conference is ‘TVET to drive innovation and Talent Development’.

“The normal registration rate is RM960 per person, while there is also a student rate of RM380 per person and online rate of RM200 per person,” he said.

Also present were the deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Amnelia Siam and Sarawak Skills Chief Commercial Officer, Corporate Relations and Business Development, Mohamad Isham Fauzi and other management staff. — DayakDaily
