KUCHING, May 15: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will not compromise on its stand to contest all parliamentary seats in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15), said chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
Fazzrudin said this was previously mentioned by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is GPS chairman, and this stand has remained unchanged.
“With GPS contesting and winning the parliamentary seats, it would ensure that efforts to reclaim and safeguard Sarawak’s rights will continue for the foreseeable future,” said the Tupong assemblyman in a statement today.
He was responding to a news report of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urging Abang Johari to consider allowing Bersatu Sarawak candidates to be fielded in Sarawak’s parliamentary seats in GE15.
Fazzrudin, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy youth chief, said that GPS at the helm would contribute to ensuring political stability in the nation, similar to what has been achieved in the recent political crisis in 2020 and ensure prosperity for the people.
“We have been in this current political dilemma for far too long, and this period of instability has, to a certain extent, dampened both the economic development and the governance of the nation.
“If Sarawak prospers, I believe that the nation will too. What is important now is that Sarawak and the nation’s interests remain the utmost priority,” he added. — DayakDaily
