Dr Sim: Sarawak to decide on SOPs for pubs, nightclubs

Dr Sim Kui Hian

KUCHING, May 15: Sarawak will decide whether the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for pubs and nightclubs issued by the federal government are applicable in the State, said Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

According to Dr Sim, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah will call the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for a meeting soon to decide on the matter.

“Not everything from Peninsular Malaysia is suitable for us, and SDMC has always set our own rules and policy,” he told reporters after attending a Wesak Day celebration held at the Sarawak Buddhist Association’s main temple at Jalan Wan Alwi here today.

Dr Sim was answering a question on whether the Licensed Pubs and Nightclub Operations Protocol guidelines issued by the federal Housing and Local Government Ministry recently apply to Sarawak.

He added there would be a formal announcement for that matter. — DayakDaily
