KUCHING, Jan 8: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) Malaysia will station its officers proficient in Mandarin at all international airports in the country.

According to its Minister Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, this will help to ensure smooth operations at the country’s entry points, especially involving travellers from China who may not be that proficient in English and do not understand Bahasa Malaysia.

He said that Motac would coordinate with international airport management throughout the country, including the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, to ensure preparedness at the country’s border gates while providing an effortless entry process for travellers.

“China has closed its borders for over three years. As a result, a large number of travellers from China are expected to enter our country to travel.

“To better receive and welcome the arrival of Chinese tourists, Motac proposes to provide convenient routes at international airports.

“This is not only to ensure smoothness but also shorten the arrival process,” said Tiong in his Facebook posting today.

Tiong noted, in addition to speeding up the customs inspection process without affecting travellers from other countries, the step can also highlight Malaysia’s friendly nature in welcoming travellers from China.

“At the same time, it also takes into account the health and safety level of travellers from China and removes the concerns of foreign tourists regarding Malaysia’s move to tighten the standard operating procedures (SOPs) at the country’s entrance,” he said.

Yesterday (Jan 7), Tiong said the people’s safety, health and economy remain a priority for Motac. — DayakDaily
