BINTULU, Aug 31: Many parents are still bringing their children along to shopping malls and supermarkets and exposing them to the risk of Covid-19 infection, says Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

“Recently I went to the ground to monitor several places and I found out that many parents take their children to various places.

“Some left their children in the car and claimed they bought necessities, but after observation, they just take a walk without buying things.

“All these actions will only expose their children to the virus. They should know that this is not the time to bring your children for sightseeing or to carry out recreational activities,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He revealed that there had been an increase of Covid-19 cases involving children below the age of 7 in Bintulu with the youngest being four-years-old.

“Daily cases show that more children are infected with the virus with the majority of them involving those below the age of 7.

“For instance, Bintulu recorded 56 new infections yesterday (Aug 30), with cases involving children having increased to 24. The youngest victim is four-years-old while the oldest is 16-years-old,” he added.

Following that, he urged parents to stay at home and avoid bringing their children to shopping malls or supermarkets.

“Additionally, I hope both (those living in) urban areas and residents of longhouses and villages can control their movements in ensuring that the virus does not spread widely,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
