Sibu pub and karaoke centre operator receives RM50,000 compound for violating MCO SOPs

SIBU, Aug 31: A pub and karaoke centre operator was compounded RM50,000 while 12 of her patrons received compounds of RM4,000 each for defying the Movement Control Order last night.

Sibu district deputy police chief, Supt Collin Babat said at about 11pm, an integrated standard operating procedure (SOP) monitoring team led by ASP Kushairy Bujang raided the centre located at Jalan Pedada.

“The team found 13 individuals which include the operator of the centre (in violation of SOP). Action had to be taken against them as the centre is (conducting) one of the business activities which is not allowed during this Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan. All of them had also did not observe social distancing,” he said.

The 31-year-old female centre operator was compounded RM50,000 under Regulation 17 (2) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.

The patrons comprising nine men and three women, aged between 21 and 50, were compounded RM4,000 each under Regulation 17 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.

Meanwhile, at a bistro at Jalan Sena, a second SOP monitoring team found seven persons including the owner of the premises to be conducting the same offence at 3.45pm.

Collin said the 53-year-old owner of the bistro was compounded RM25,000 while her customers comprising three men and three women, received a RM2,000 compound notice each.

The 20 offenders are to pay their compounds in 14 days’ time at the local Health Department Office. — DayakDaily
