KUCHING, Aug 26: Three areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air quality as of 8am today, with Sri Aman registering the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in the State at 167, followed by the Serian district police headquarters (IPD) at 166 and Samarahan at 162.
Nationwide, 17 areas in six states and two Federal Territories recorded unhealthy API readings, according to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal.
In Selangor, five areas recorded API readings above 100, with Johan Setia and Shah Alam registering 158 each, followed by Klang (151), Banting (144) and Petaling Jaya (123).
In the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Cheras recorded an API reading of 159, while Batu Muda registered 152. In Negeri Sembilan, Nilai and Seremban recorded readings of 162 and 158, respectively.
The other areas with unhealthy API readings were the Federal Territory of Putrajaya (159); Tangkak in Johor (153); Bukit Rambai (143) and Alor Gajah (128) in Melaka; and Taiping in Perak (108).
Meanwhile, 49 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality, while two areas recorded good readings. No areas recorded very unhealthy or hazardous air quality as of 8am today.
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.
