KUCHING, Oct 16: Three 13-year-old boys are feared to have drowned while swimming in Sungai Batang Lassa in Daro yesterday (Oct 15).
According to a report from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, they received a call regarding the incident at 6.37pm and firefighters from Bomba Daro were deployed to the location.
Following the arrival of firefighters at 6.45pm, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched together with the police, Civil Defense Force (APM) personnel and local villagers, to scour the river near the incident location using water surface searching techniques and a grappling iron.
However, at 7.45pm, the operation was suspended and will continue today.
Based on a report obtain from a witness, four people were swimming together at Sg Batang Lassa before three of them were swept away by the river current while the remaining person managed to swim to safety. — DayakDaily
