KUCHING, May 15: Internet connectivity in Tebedu remains “like Chipsmore—now you see it, now you don’t,” while collapsed riverbanks and damaged suspension bridges in Kampung Krusen Siyu and Kampung Krusen Keranji following recent flooding are among urgent issues requiring immediate attention.

On the weak internet connectivity, Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said despite ongoing government initiatives to improve connectivity in N21 Tebedu, including projects under Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) such as SMART600, the Multi-Core Network and MySRBN upgrades, the internet issue in rural areas remains unresolved.

“The weak and unstable signal continues to affect residents’ daily lives, limiting access to digital economy opportunities, information, and education.

“I appeal to the relevant agencies to work towards identifying the root cause and finding appropriate and reasonable solutions,” he raised when debating the motion of thanks on the TYT Address in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting today.

Dr Sinang also highlighted the impact of the Northeast Monsoon, which has brought continuous heavy rain, floods and strong winds from Nov 13, 2025 to March 2026, causing widespread damage across several villages in his constituency.

Among the worst affected areas are Kampung Krusen Siyu and Kampung Krusen Keranji, where infrastructure damage includes a collapsed suspension bridge and a washed-out road, leaving parts of the villages cut off.

Other villages severely affected by flooding include Kampung Tema Mawang, Kampung Tema Penggal, Kampung Tema Saan, Kampung Tubuh Behem, Kampung Tubih Sungai Ujan, Kampung Tebedu Mawang, Kampung Gahat Mawang, Kampung Daha Kisau, Kampung Daha Mawang, and Kampung Sungan.

“I call for urgent restoration of the collapsed riverbanks, damaged roads, and the collapsed suspension bridges in Kampung Krusen Siyu and Kampung Krusen Keranji so that residents of both villages can resume their daily activities.”

At the same time, he acknowledged the efforts of the Serian Division Disaster Management Committee in coordinating flood response and delivering aid to affected communities.

Dr Sinang also expressed appreciation to the government for approving RM1 million to repair the collapsed suspension bridge and RM800,000 to construct an alternative road replacing the damaged access route in Kampung Krusen Keranji, describing the allocations as crucial in easing the burden of affected residents. — DayakDaily
