TEBEDU, Sept 2: A RM2.1 million riverbank protection project has begun in Kampung Krusen Kranji to restore and safeguard access routes affected by the major floods in January.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said the project was among the Sarawak government’s immediate measures to address the impact of the floods which had disrupted the village’s main road and access routes.
“The construction of the Sungai Kayan riverbank protection in Kampung Krusen Kranji involves a cost of RM2.1 million while RM900,000 has been allocated for the reconstruction of the suspension bridge in Kampung Krusen Siu,” he said during the project site handover ceremony at Kampung Krusen Kranji today.
The allocations for both projects were channelled through the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), with the Serian Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) serving as the implementing and monitoring agency.
The Sungai Kayan riverbank protection project will take 12 months to complete, from Sept 2, 2026 to Sept 1, 2027.
Meanwhile, the proposed reconstruction of the Kampung Krusen Siu suspension bridge is still undergoing final assessment of its documentation, according to Dr Simon.
Beyond flood recovery, additional allocations have also been approved to improve basic amenities for residents in the area.
These include RM150,000 for a solar project covering Kampung Krusen Kranji, Kampung Krusen Siu and Kampung Krusen Mawang, RM100,000 to upgrade the Kampung Krusen Mawang community hall, RM100,000 for a village road upgrade in Krusen Mawang and RM280,000 to upgrade Awah Gawai Krusen Siu. — DayakDaily
