KUCHING, May 2: Teachers, especially those serving in rural schools, deserve to be commended for accepting the accompanying sacrifices, challenges and difficulties to ensure children get the best education.

Lubok Antu Member of Parliament (MP) Jugah Muyang highlighted this when officiating the Teachers’ Day celebration at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Delok in Lubok Antu, Sri Aman on Monday.

SK Nanga Delok, located near the Batang Ai hydroelectric dam, is about a two-hour longboat journey from the dam jetty.

“It is difficult to imagine the challenges and hardships that they have to face every day, but instead the educators serving in SK Nanga Delok continue to be optimistic and committed in realising the mission of educating the children so they can be successful,” he said in a press release yesterday.

“Although the conditions and facilities at SK Nanga Delok is far behind but their teachers remain passionate about teaching and the students also show a high level of enthusiasm.”

Jugah was confident that if the government provided better facilities and infrastructure, the teachers and students would be able to improve the quality of education in this school.

“The education infrastructure is very important and should be given full attention by the government to create a conducive environment,” he said.

“We see children in rural schools and from poor families having talent and if given the opportunities to get to boarding schools equipped with good facilities and infrastructure as well as quality teachers, our children can excel,” he added.

At the event, he announced RM30,000 for the school to improve facilities as well as for students and teachers’ activities. — DayakDaily
