Tamin rep: Uphold meritocracy and not nepotism

KUCHING, Aug 19:  Tamin Assemblyman Christopher Gira says the principle of meritocracy must be upheld when deciding on leadership, from cabinet down to private companies in the process of nation building.

He said if Malaysia were to be serious to become a developed nation, leaders must allow meritocracy and not giving in to nepotism.

“First, get the right person with relevant knowledge and experience to hold the position, including cabinet ministers, top and senior management and also the supporting staff.”

“Assess all individuals based on demonstrated performance and not by social origins,” said Christopher.

He said investment in human capital which is a necessity in country building should  be carried out without religious or racial discrimination.

“Invest in human capital for long term development based on the talent, not race and religion,” he said.

Christopher believed that giving equal treatment and opportunity to all Malaysians is another factor which will make Malaysia great again.

He also asserted that harmonious relationship among Malaysians is an important principle to uphold to allow Malaysia can charge forward.

“…Always maintain harmonious relationship among Malaysians.  Respect each other for their beliefs and religions,” he added.

Christopher who is Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) deputy publicity chief said this to support PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing’s call to adhere to the principle of meritocracy in developing Malaysia.

Citing Singapore as an example, Masing said the nation has been upholding the principle of meritocracy in nation development and has thus become a nation which Malaysia cannot keep up with. — DayakDaily
