KUCHING, April 5: Repairs to dilapidated schools and clinics in Sarawak can move forward more quickly now that the region has full autonomy over development projects costing less than RM50 million.

Sarawak Federal Secretary Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan, according to a news report published by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), stated that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg wants the improvement and upgrading of dilapidated schools and clinics in the region to be expedited.

Ahmad Nadzri also pointed out that the Sarawak government can implement a special budget allocation of less than RM50 million for the repair of dilapidated schools.

“The Premier of Sarawak wishes to expedite the region’s schools and clinics that are in a state of disrepair.

“He (Sarawak Premier) also expressed his views on national security and defence, particularly on land borders and the waters of the South China Sea.

“Those are the two main points that the Premier of Sarawak emphasised to me, which I will convey to the relevant parties in the federal government. The ministries involved must act immediately,” he told reporters when met after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya, Kuching today.

The purpose of the courtesy call was to discuss the development of dilapidated schools and clinics throughout Sarawak, as well as certain national security and defence concerns.
