KUCHING, April 5: Government departments will deal with cases that involve misconduct or wrongdoing by civil servants internally first, says Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Ombudsman and Integrity) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya.

Dr Juanda said that an internal investigation would be carried out first, and if there are cases with criminal elements, the matter will be extended to the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“Our standard operating procedure is the head of the department will handle this officer first if there is no criminal element involved,” he told reporters today after officiating at the ‘Program Jelajah Integriti Siri6/2023 Daerah Siburan’.

The programme’s main objective is to promote awareness and instill the culture of integrity to introduce the function of the ombudsman to the community.

“If there are criminal elements in cases that involve misconduct among civil servants, we will surely extend such cases to MACC,” he reiterated.

“If MACC wants to carry out their own investigation, it is their prerogative,” he shared.

“The normal process of demotion , termination of services is normal in any organisation.”

Also present at the event were Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Director of Integrity and Ombudsman Unit Semawai Mohamad, Resident Serian representative Caroline Cleophas Joseph and Siburan acting district officer Ranum Bari. — DayakDaily
