KUCHING, Jan 13: Sarawak has taken a bold step into the future of business events with the introduction of AI.Legacy, the world’s first smart impact management system designed to monitor, measure, and report business event legacies.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg described AI.Legacy as a groundbreaking tool that will set a new benchmark in legacy management for business events, offering transformative opportunities for the industry.

“AI.Legacy is a bold leap into the future. As we understand it, this intelligent impact management system for business events is the first of its kind in the world—a truly forward-thinking tool that sets a new benchmark for how legacy outcomes can be assessed, optimised, and communicated.

“When I was first introduced to the system by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), I was intrigued by whether it was possible to turn the intangible, tangible.

“To measure what people have said, cannot be measured. But in this day and age, artificial intelligence and data have made things very possible,” he said in his speech, which was read by Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP), Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Abdul Karim represented Abang Johari at ‘The Preview of Legacy360: Business Events for a Sustainable Future Forum and the Launch of AI.Legacy and Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards (BILA) 2025,’ held today at a prominent hotel here.

The Premier further stated that AI.Legacy is not merely an achievement in technology but a visionary initiative that empowers everyone to collaboratively drive impact alongside associations, event planners, industry players, policymakers, and a wide range of other stakeholders.

“It is a technological innovation that highlights the real progress and potential of business events in advancing the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and other key ESG agendas,” he added.

Furthermore, Abang Johari announced the Legacy360: Business Events for a Sustainable Future Forum, Southeast Asia’s first forum dedicated to promoting education, advocacy, and the advancement of business event legacies, which is scheduled for September this year.

He stated that the two-day event, organised by BESarawak, will feature interactive workshops and thought-provoking dialogues, along with the inaugural BILA 2025.

“The vision for Legacy360 is simple: we want this forum, grown in Sarawak, to be recognised by the world.

“We want event planners, policymakers, industry players, and serious change-makers across continents to know that Sarawak is where they can start making a difference and this is where they can drive real impact.”

Abang Johari also announced the transformation of the Anak Sarawak Awards, Malaysia’s first business events award ceremony, into BILA 2025.

“As Sarawak positions itself globally in light of Indonesia’s new capital city, we are creating as many opportunities as possible, including an awards programme to honour local, national, and international players for their contributions to Sarawak,” he remarked.

The event was attended by various dignitaries and officials, including MTCP deputy minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, MTCP permanent secretary Datu Sherrina Hussaini, BESarawak chairman Dato Sri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operation) and BESarawak deputy chairman Datu Hii Chang Kee, and BESarawak chief executive officer (CEO) Amelia Roziman. — DayakDaily
