S’wak sees drop in Covid-19 cases for Day 4 with 235 cases, Kuching remains district with highest cases

KUCHING, July 11: Sarawak registered a steady drop in total number of Covid-19 cases for the fourth consecutive day today with 235 cases, as Kuching remains the district with the highest number of new cases.

The State previously recorded 270 cases on July 11 (yesterday), 352 on July 10 and 406 on July 9, which symbolised a good progress for the State.


On the breakdown of the cases, Kuching reported 88, followed by Lundu (26), Miri (22), Sibu (20), Saratok (11), Sarikei (9), Bintulu (7), Selangau (7), Samarahan (6), Subis (6), Dalat (6), Bau (5), Mukah (3), Sri Aman (3), Serian (3), Telang Usan (3), Kapit (2), Kanowit (2), Meradong (1), Limbang (1), Tatau (1), Song (1), Matu (1) and Beluru (1).

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, said 10 of the total cases involved detainees at the Miri Central Prison, four detainees in Kuching and one detainee at Sri Aman Prison.

In summary, 142 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases, 44 individuals linked to active clusters, 29 from other screenings in health facilities, 19 detected from screening of symptomatic individuals, and one Import B case involving an individual returning from Labuan.

The State also recorded one new fatality involving a 59-year-old woman in Sri Aman who had high blood pressure and diabetes comorbidities. Her death brought the State’s death toll to 433.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 611 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 59,546 or 86.17 per cent.

There are 8,964 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State. — DayakDaily
