Funeral and prayer meeting leads to Kg Kendaie Cluster with 23 Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, July 12: A funeral ceremony and a prayer meeting involving residents of Kampung Kendaie in Lundu has triggered a new Covid-19 cluster known as the Kampung Kendaie Cluster with 23 people confirmed infected so far.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update, the funeral ceremony and prayer meeting were held from June 30 until July 6.

So far, 48 people have been swabbed with 23 testing positive comprising 22 citizens and a foreigner. The rest tested negative.

Covid-19 patients from the village have been sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the Covid-19 Low Risk and Quarantine Centre (PKRC) in Kuching for isolation and treatment.

Meanwhile, the Sungai Penyerai Cluster in Tatau ended after zero cases were reported in the last 28 days.

With this, there are still 100 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak out of which eight reported 44 new cases today. — DayakDaily
