KUCHING, Jan 27: Sarawak is the centre of the shipbuilding and ship repair industry in Malaysia, with 68 out of 100 shipyards throughout the country located in the State.

According to Sarawak Association of Maritime Industries (SAMIN) president Dr Renco Yong King Hwa, the increasing demand for oil and gas and logistic requirements have propelled the shipping industry to new heights, driving economic growth and prosperity.

“Today, we proudly export vessels of international standard to various countries across the globe, showcasing the expertise and craftsmanship of Sarawakian shipbuilders,” he said during the SAMIN office relocation and signboard installation ceremony in Sibu today.

Dr Renco said the shipbuilding industry, also recognised as one of the key pillars of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) plan, underscores the sector’s strategic importance in driving sustainable development and creating employment opportunities for our people.

“As we continue to chart our course forward, guided by principles of innovation, sustainability, and excellence, we are poised to play an instrumental role in shaping the maritime landscape not just regionally but globally,” he added.

Meanwhile, the relocation of the SAMIN office, Dr Renco said, signifies not just a change in address but a reaffirmation of their commitment to serving members and stakeholders with diligence and dedication.

He said it is a testament to their collective resolve to adapt, evolve, and thrive in an ever-changing environment.

“This new space shall serve as a hub for collaboration, creativity, and synergy, fostering greater cohesion and camaraderie among our members,” he said. — DayakDaily
