KUCHING, Feb 22: Kuching could be on the brink of seeing yet another Covid-19 cluster based on the 23 community cases reported yesterday (Feb 21).

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian warned that Kuching needs to be on high alert following the sudden increase in cases among the community.

“Eleven cases were the results of contact tracing of the earlier sporadic cases who came forward to health clinics to be tested.

“I was made to understand that a new cluster will emerge from this contact tracing,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday (Feb 21).

Adding on, he noted SDMC reported 11 cases on Feb 21 that involved asymptomatic patients and one symptomatic individual.

He added the next step would be to carry out Active Case Detection (ACD) on these 12 cases.

Dr Sim, who is also the Minister for Local Government and Housing, further asserted that the mentioned 23 cases reflected community spread of the virus in Kuching.

Thus, he urged for everyone’s help and cooperation to stop or contain the spread of the coronavirus.

“Please love yourself, your family, colleagues, friends and Sarawak. Say ‘no’ to complacency and be on high alert at all times.

“Vaccines have arrived in Malaysia. We want you to be alive so you can get vaccinated rather than losing you forever,” said Dr Sim. — DayakDaily
