KUCHING, June 4: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Pending Branch vice chairman Dato Wee Hong Seng has called on members to reject attempts to sow division within the party, stressing that unity is crucial if the branch is to continue serving the people effectively.

Wee said political rivals often seek to weaken parties by creating camps, spreading rumours, and fostering mistrust among members.

“We all know that in politics, there will always be people who try to divide us. There will be people who say, ‘This group is not with that group.’ There will be people who say, ‘This person belongs to that camp.’

“There will be people who whisper, provoke, and try to create doubt. This is the old tactic of divide and rule,” he said when speaking at SUPP Pending Branch’s 42nd anniversary dinner tonight.

Wee cautioned that allowing internal divisions to take root would only benefit others while weakening the party’s ability to serve the people.

“If we allow ourselves to be divided, others will benefit. If we allow suspicion to grow, our work becomes weaker. If we spend our energy looking at each other, we will lose focus on the people outside who need us,” he said.

He stressed that SUPP Pending should not be divided by old labels, groupings, past differences, or outside provocation.

“We are not here as one person’s people or another person’s people. We are here as SUPP Pending. We are one branch, one team, one family, one force for service,” he added.

At the same time, Wee urged party members to focus on addressing bread-and-butter issues affecting residents in Pending, including roads, drainage, cleanliness, hawkers, small businesses, public facilities, traffic, safety, young families, and senior citizens.

“Pending deserves better service. Pending deserves better follow-up. Pending deserves practical solutions, not just political noise,” he said.

According to him, these are issues that directly impact residents’ daily lives and require consistent attention rather than promises made only during election periods.

Reflecting on the branch’s history, Wee paid tribute to past and present leaders who helped build SUPP Pending over the decades, including founding branch chairman the late Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong, former branch chairman Datuk Sim Kheng Hui, and current branch chairman and SUPP president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He also acknowledged the contributions of veteran party leaders and grassroots members who had dedicated years of service to strengthening the branch and maintaining its presence in the constituency.

Looking ahead, Wee urged members to renew their commitment to the party and the people by working together, strengthening grassroots engagement, and nurturing younger leaders.

“The people of Pending are watching. They want to know whether SUPP can offer something better—not just criticism, not just slogans, but service, solutions, and stability.

“Let us show them that SUPP Pending is disciplined. Let us show them that SUPP Pending is united. Let us show them that SUPP Pending is ready to serve,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
