Sunway College Kuching signs MOU with Curtin University Malaysia for graduates to pursue degrees at Curtin

KUCHING, Jan 31: Sunway College Kuching has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Curtin University Malaysia to allow Sunway College Diploma and Foundation graduates to pursue Degrees at Curtin Malaysia with scholarships provided by the Yayasan Sarawak (Sarawak Foundation) for Sarawakian students, as well as collaborations in various areas.

According to Sunway College Kuching director Joseph Lim, the collaboration with Curtin Malaysia will provide an articulation pathway for Sunway College Diploma and Foundation studies graduates to progress onto Curtin Malaysia undergraduate programmes in year 2 based on Credit Recognised Learning (CRL) credit points granted by Curtin Malaysia and Curtin Australia.

“(The goal is also) to work with the Sarawak government through Curtin Malaysia to provide scholarships, study grants, or student loans to enable Sunway College Diploma and Foundation graduates to pursue Degrees at Curtin Malaysia, thereby increasing opportunities for students to pursue further education in the future.

“It is also intended to establish a professional financial courses division at Curtin Malaysia to provide the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification to Curtin Malaysia undergraduates who are eligible and interested in pursuing the ACCA qualification.

“This comes in the form of preparing students for ACCA examination via lectures, tutorials, and revision classes,” he said in his opening remarks at the press conference for the signing of the MOU between Sunway College and Curtin Malaysia, which took place today at Sunway College here.

Furthermore, he stated that the collaboration with Curtin Malaysia will look into further collaboration in terms of knowledge sharing through active participation between two parties through various platforms such as seminars, conferences, workshops, and so on related to T & L that can benefit both institutions.

“We very much look forward to working with Curtin Malaysia to drive forward this collaboration and assist more Sarawakians to pursue higher education in line with our Sarawak Post Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” Lim added.

Among those present at the event were Curtin University Malaysia president, chief executive, and pro vice-chancellor Professor Simon Leunig, Curtin University Malaysia deputy pro vice-chancellor Professor Dr Vincent Chieng Chen, Curtin University Malaysia manager of External Engagement Muhamad Rahman Sallehin, and Sunway College Kuching senior operations manager and chief executive Tang Ing Sia. — DayakDaily
