KUCHING, Aug 28: The state Land and Survey Department (LSD) is currently working to improve its land instrument registration process and services from One Day Registration to Same Day Registration next year.

Its director Zaidi Mahdi said the One Day Registration for land instrument has been consistently implemented since 2010.

“In 2018, a total of 85,410 land instruments had been registered within one day with transactions valued more than RM24.12 billion,” he said  at the LSD Sarawak Innovation and Integrity Day 2019 (HIITS 2019) here, today.

Themed “Innovation with integrity in the digital landscape”, the celebration was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Imagine the impact on the state economy after all land registration transactions have been completed,” Zaidi said.

He added that LSD Sarawak will continue to take on new challenges to make further improvement and set the key performance index (KPI) for the Same Day Registration compared, to the One Day Registration.

“We are working on the project to improve the processes of registration so it can be implemented on the same day.

“Hopefully in HIITS next year, the chief minister will be able to launch the Same Day Registration (service). This will make Sarawak the leader in registration of land transactions, as this is one of the criteria in the Ease of Doing Business ranking by the World Bank,” he said.

Zaidi added that the state government has not only allocated RM40 million for Native Customary Rights (NCR) land survey programme, but also approved the recruitment of 467 officers in various categories to strengthen the organisation’s manpower.

HIITS, a platform for employees to come up with innovative creations or improvement since 2008, has produced 139 innovation projects to date.

Many have also received national and international recognition such as Sarapeg and Land and Survey Information System (Lasis), he pointed out.

“With an enhanced Lasis, we have decided to once again join the Geospatial World Excellence Award in Amsterdam next year to present new ideas in Lasis.

“Other than Lasis Mobile project, we will also be competing in the 3D City Modelling for city planning and urban renewal at the same time,” he revealed.

The event also saw the presentation of Integrity Award, as well as the launching of JTS Corruption Risks Management Plan and new Lasis Mobile app featuring e-wallet, internal mobile and valuation services functions. — DayakDaily
