KUCHING, Dec 22: A South Korean company based in Sarawak plans to increase its number of employees by giving priority to locals as well as experts in 2023.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability in a statement today, OCIM Sdn Bhd president Steve Choi Sung Kii said it will hire an additional 1,900 people in the coming year compared to 650 people in 2021.

Choi said this during a courtesy visit to Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni at the Masja Building here on Dec 20.

Meanwhile, during the visit, Choi also expressed his company’s interest in realising green energy exploration initiatives with the Sarawak government.

He added it is in line with the company’s business prospects in Sarawak in the context of green energy and the semiconductor value chain.

From 2017 to 2022, OCIM Sdn Bhd has focused on its green energy business after making an investment of RM2.2 billion and establishing a research and development (R&D) Centre in Miri in collaboration with Curtin University Malaysia.

Starting 2023, OCIM Sdn Bhd will continue to invest in ‘polysilicon’ by launching semiconductor value chain operations and strengthening the solar value chain in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
