KUCHING, July 4: A soundman claimed trial to a charge of stealing cash from a dancer who performed at the same event held at a hotel here.

Zaharmeezan Azlan, 31, from Kampung Bintawa Tengah, pleaded not guilty to the charge framed.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi fixed August 1 for pre-trial case management.

The accused allegedly stole RM700 cash belonging to a dancer who was performing at an event he was working for, between 8pm to 9pm, on June 27, 2019.

He was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries an imprisonment tern which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine, if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, the victim only realised that his money was missing after the event and asked for the CCTV recording from the hotel. The CCTV footage showed the accused taking the victim’s bagpack which contained the cash.
