KUCHING, Dec 26: Social activist Datuk Seri Ang Lai Soon hopes that constructive and positive steps will be taken to prevent the occurrence of floods in any part of the country in the future.

In his Christmas message this year, he said his thoughts and prayers are with the people in peninsular states who have lost their loved ones, property and livelihoods in the massive floods due to human factors and climate change.

“It is heartening to note that people from all walks of life are lending a hand to the flood victims.

“Things can improve, but think tanks and professional people, who are experts in this field should be allowed to devise an effective control system before the next floods set in.

“Let us think one step ahead of another future disaster,” he said.

In the wake of natural disasters such as floods and the Covid-19 pandemic in the country and around the world, Ang opined that those who were intolerant and desire to own more than what they need should act in a responsible and rational manner so that the multi-religious society in Malaysia could celebrate festivities such as Christmas, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak, Deepavali, Chinese New Year and many other festivals in harmony.

He also urged the people to offer peace and goodwill to all mankind in the midst of the growing problems that people are facing coupled with the discovery of the Omicron Covid-19 variant which was unprecedented.

Ang thus called on the people to adapt to changes and live in the new norm in order to break the chain of Covid-19 transmissions.

In the meantime, he extended his appreciation to medical personnel and frontliners such as the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Immigration Department, armed forces, volunteers and the mass media who risk their lives to stop the spread of Covid-19. — DayakDaily
