SIBU, Dec 29: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will look into building more parks in the eastern part of Sibu.

SMC chairman Clarence Ting said, the eastern part in question were the Lanang and Lada areas as they are lacking in such facilities.

“We hope to find more funding from the national landscape plan to facilitate the implementation of these projects.

“I have always said that parks and markets are worthwhile projects because more and more people are using these facilities,” he said at the council’s Appreciation Night 2022 on Wednesday.

He also informed that next year, Bukit Aup Jubli Park will be upgraded while Permai Lake Garden will have a new walking path and a new 3km cycling track.

In addition to focusing on the park projects, he stated that several markets and hawker centers here will start operating next year.

“SMC will open the Muhibbah Market in February 2023 and will open the Jaya Li Hua Hawker Center in early 2023 as well.

“As for Pasar Sungai Merah, we will welcome a new market building with market and hawker center by the end of 2023. In addition, Pasar Taman Rejang will start to be upgraded in 2023,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the council also faces the problem of traffic congestion which requires road expansion and the construction of more new roads.

“For this, we will continue to work with the people’s representatives at the State and Federal government level to find more funding for it,” he said.

On abandoned building structures, he stressed SMC will be looking at the possibility of demolishing them for public safety.
