Sifma 2022 draws curtains close on a high note

KUCHING, Dec 5: Sarawak International Festival of Music and Arts (Sifma) 2022 ended last night with stellar musical, dance, arts, and choir performances.

Themed ‘Music That Illuminates’, the festival was held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) auditorium in Petra Jaya.

The event delighted audiences with an opening performance from Arthur Bowman with his ‘Opening Chant and Bird call: Chant and Pratuong’.

This was followed by a Rhythm of Sarawak performance by Rhythms of Asia Group together with MSS Gendang, a solo performance by award-winning pianist Dr Gilbert De Greeve, and a performance by Malaysia Voice Ensemble, UiTM Chamber Choir.

Halili Cruz School of Dance, La Dansa Studio, South India dance artist, Sugpriya Ashok, and Shilp Matri Studios showcased their dance performances while Sarawakian pianist, Esme Wong also took to the stage.

Japanese conductor, Associate Professor Dr. Masashi Kishimoto (gold shirt) led the UiTM Chamber Choir performance.

Later, the event continued with choir and dance performances from Singaporean choir, Victoria Chorale, Kenwy Music and Arts Academy with it’s song titled ‘The Generals Command’, and Sarawak’s Sifma Choir which featured Dolce Chanticleer (under conductor Sabrina Tnay), St Joseph’s Private School (under conductor Benedict Lo), and Lodge Secondary School (under conductor Anthony Wong).

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, his deputy minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan and the ministry’s permanent secretary Datu Hii Chang Kee were among those present at the event. — DayakDaily
