KUCHING, March 31: Sibu once again topped the list of daily Covid-19 infections with 30 cases and one fatality involving a 57-year-old man.
Sarawak recorded 176 new Covid-19 cases with Kuching has second highest number of cases at 29 followed by Bintulu (25), Miri (19), Sarikei (13), Serian (11), Beluru (10), Meradong (8), Kapit and Matu (6 each), Julau, Samarahan and Sri Aman (5 each) while Marudi, Saratok and Simnunjan has one each.
This has increased the state tally of positive cases to 16,390 and the death toll to 108.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily report on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today, informed that the 108th fatality was Case 10,726 involving a 57-year-old man who was found positive on March 5 from symptomatic screening at Lanang Health Clinic.
The deceased was experiencing coughing and fever for several days before being admitted to Sibu Hospital on March 6.
While in the ward, the health condition of the patient with gout disease deteriorated and he passed away today (March 31).
As for the 176 new cases, SDMC reported that 33 cases were symptomatic while 177 cases consisted of individuals undergoing quarantine at designated facilities as they have been identified as close contacts to positive cases.
Of the figure, 47 cases were linked to active clusters and all of them were asymptomatic.
In Sibu, Jalan Sanyan Cluster picked up 10 cases, newly declared Bulatan Aman Cluster added five cases while Tanjung Genting added two cases.
In Miri, the newly declared Jalan Kingsway Cluster recorded two more cases. In Sarikei, the newly declared Jalan Baji Cluster registered 12 more cases while Tanjung Genting picked up one case.
In Serian, Batu Gong Cluster recorded four cases, Depot Immigration Cluster (2 cases), Chupak Cluster (1 case) and Kampung Baru Hilir Cluster (1 case).
Beluru’s Jalan Gridbid Cluster added one case, Kapit’s Gelong Cluster one case, Sri Aman’s Taman Vistagro Cluster three cases and Samarahan’s Kampung Baru Hilir Cluster two cases.
Sarawak also declared three new clusters today with Jalan Kingsway Cluster in Miri which is linked to a workplace that has 51 cases, Bulatan Aman Cluster in Sibu also linked to a workplace has 43 cases and Jalan Baji Cluster in Sarikei which is a community cluster with 20 cases.
With three new clusters, the number of active clusters in Sarawak has ballooned to 36.
Meanwhile, Sarawak also reported 134 recoveries with 34 patients each discharged from Miri Hospital and Bintulu Hospital, 22 from Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kapit, 19 from Sibu Hospital, 12 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), 10 from Sarikei Hospital, two from PKRC Betong and one from PKRC Serian.
Thus, the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak has increased to 13,389 or 81.69 per cent of total positive cases so far. -DayakDaily
