KUCHING, Oct 21:  A Sibu Special Economic Zone will be established under 2027 Madani Budget.

The zone will build on the city’s existing strengths to attract investments in high-value manufacturing, downstream processing, agro-industry, logistics, and the green economy.

It will create skilled employment, open new markets for Sarawak’s SMEs and strengthen economic linkages with Bintulu, Mukah, Kapit and the wider Rajang Basin.

“We will work closely with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant Federal agencies to secure special incentives and translate the proposed zone into concrete plans and investments, positioning Sibu as a new engine of growth for central Sarawak,” said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly here today.

He added that a joint committee will be formed to oversee its development. – DayakDaily
