KUCHING, Oct 21: Tunku Putra-HELP (TPH) will resume classes as usual tomorrow (Oct 22), following clearance from the relevant authorities, after an incident this morning in which a student allegedly injured a teacher.

The school also said it had reviewed its safety protocols and enhanced security measures in consultation with the relevant authorities, and with immediate effect, three ancillary police officers will be stationed at the school compound and appropriate safety checks will be conducted upon entry to the campus.

Following the incident, TPH immediately activated its emergency response protocols, with teachers and staff responding swiftly and the police and ambulance services promptly notified.

It said, the injured teacher was taken to hospital by ambulance for medical attention and as of now, she is recovering well and has sustained no critical injuries.

TPH expressed its gratitude for the teacher’s bravery and composure during the incident, and wished her a smooth and full recovery.

Students in the affected classroom were able to evacuate the area, and no other injuries were reported. School was closed early as a precaution advised by the police, and parents were promptly notified to pick up their children.

“The school is also exploring more comprehensive, long-term security measures for the campus. The Senior Leadership Team will hold assemblies for students to address the incident, provide assurance, respond appropriately to their concerns and provide counselling support for those who may need it,” it said.

The school respectfully urges the public not to speculate, circulate unverified information or spread rumours that may interfere with the investigation.

“We also ask that the privacy of those involved be respected while the relevant authorities carry out their duties,” it said. – DayakDaily
