Less new cases overall, but higher numbers for Betong, Miri and Asajaya

KUCHING, March 9: The total numver of new daily Covid-19 cases in Sarawak decreased to 163 today compared to 252 reported yesterday but Betong, Miri and Asajaya districts reported more cases.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, Betong registered 37 cases, Miri reported 25 cases and Asajaya witnessed six cases, in comparison to yesterday where Betong reported six cases, Miri (17) and Asajaya had zero cases.


Sibu showed the biggest drop in new Covid-19 cases today, from 149 yesterday to 17.

SDMC said the cases in Sarawak were from Betong (37), Miri (25), Bintulu (23), Sibu (17), Subis (15), Kuching (12), Julau (9), Asajaya (6), Kapit (6), Sarikei (4), Pusa (3), Samarahan (2), Bau (1), Kanowit (1), Tatau (1), and Dalat (1).

Today’s new 163 cases pushed the confirmed number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 11,511.

Most of the cases identified today were asymptomatic. SDMC disclosed that only 10.43 per cent or 17 Covid-19 patients out of the 163 patients exhibited symptoms for the coronavirus.

There was also one casualty reported involving an 83-year-old woman linked to the Buloh Cluster in Selangau.

The woman was found unconscious and was confirmed to have passed away on March 2. Test results on March 3 confirming she was positive for Covid-19.

This means the Covid-19 death toll in Sarawak now stands at 89.

Meanwhile, there were 210 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from health facilities.

A total of 2,397 Covid-19 patients are still being treated for the coronavirus at various hospitals and low risk quarantine centres across Sarawak.

Today there were also 171 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases reported, with two PUI cases awaiting swab test results.

A total of 173 Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS) were registered into hotels and quarantine centres for quarantine.

Currently, there are 6,294 PUS who are undergoing quarantine at 91 hotels and quarantine centres across Sarawak while a total of 72,511 PUS have completed their quarantine so far. — DayakDaily
