Sibu sees triple digit cases of Covid-19 for five consecutive days

KUCHING, May 24: Sibu recorded the highest Covid-19 infection in Sarawak with triple digit cases besides posting triple digit cases for the past five days.

According to reports from Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Sibu registered 142 cases of Covid-19 today.


As compared to the past five days, the Covid-19 cases in Sibu have been steadily on the rise from 120 cases on May 20 to 142 today (May 24).

Meanwhile, other districts which reported new Covid-19 cases today were Bintulu with 70 cases, Kuching (68), Julau (45), Sri Aman (14), Tanjung Manis (13), Kanowit (13), Selangau (12), Kapit (9), Betong (9), Pusa (7), Bukit Mabong (6), Sarikei (6), Mukah (6), Song (4), Meradong (4), Subis (4), Kabong (4), Daro (4), Belaga (3), Tatau (3), Pakan (2), Serian (2), Sebauh (2), Asajaya (1), Samarahan (1), Limbang (1), Beluru (1), Saratok and Lubok Antu (1).

With that, there were 530 new Covid-19 cases reported throughout Sarawak bringing the cumulative cases of coronavirus in the State to 42,813 cases.

On another note, there were three deaths reported, adding to the death toll due to Covid-19 in the State to 255 persons.

Nonetheless, there were 310 Covid-19 patients recovered and discharged from hospitals, bringing cumulative recoveries to 35,432 individuals or 82.76 per cent of the overall Covid-19 cases.

In spite of that, a total of 7,031 Covid-19 patients are being treated for coronavirus at hospitals and at the quarantine and low-risk treatment centres throughout the State.

Likewise, there was one new cluster of Covid-19 known as the Selumit Cluster in Tanjung Manis.

The emergence of a new cluster has increased the number of active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak to 85.

Apart from that, there were 530 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) and none are awaiting the results for Covid-19 screening. — DayakDaily
