SONG, Sept 9: A 51-year-old man has gone missing after entering a forest in Ulu Sebuloh here to collect Sabung leaves with his brother-in-law yesterday morning.
The missing man, identified as Freddie Manggie, entered the forest from Rh. Surie, Nanga Temalat at about 7am on Sept 8.
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Freddie complained of stomach pain at about 4pm after they had finished collecting the leaves and said he wanted to find a place to relieve himself.
“After waiting for more than two hours, the victim’s brother-in-law began searching and calling out for him at the location but failed to find him.
“He then returned to the longhouse at about 6pm and informed the residents that the victim was missing,” said the report.
Four longhouse residents subsequently searched the area at about 7am today but Freddie was still not found.
The Bomba operations control centre received information on the incident at 4.13pm today, with personnel from Song Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Song) arriving at the location at 4.19pm.
Upon arrival, the search and rescue (SAR) team received a briefing from police and conducted an initial assessment of the area before beginning the search with police, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and local residents.
The search covered a radius of about 3km into the forest but Freddie remained unaccounted for.
The location could only be accessed by land via a forest road from the junction near SK Nanga Temalat, with the journey taking about three hours. The SAR operation was suspended at 6pm and will resume tomorrow. — DayakDaily
