SIBU, July 22: The price of unsubsidised cooking oil in Sibu has gone down following the drop in the price of crude palm oil (CPO), says Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Speaking at a press conference after visiting a wholesaler today, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) added that the 5kg unsubsidised cooking oil is now sold at RM39 per bottle compared to more than RM40 previously.

“From our monitoring, we found that there is no shortage of 1kg polybags of subsidised cooking oil in the market,” he added.

Alexander praised the wholesalers for doing the right thing in selling the item according to the latest CPO price.

“It is not only the wholesaler but the refinery company who should also play their role to reduce their price accordingly,” he said.

On public complaints of the shortage of cooking oil, he said his ministry is investigating the matter.

“We are always monitoring the situation from time to time. This is done not only by KPDNHEP officials but also by Price Monitoring Officers (PPHs),” he said.

However, the minister reminded the public to send their complaints through the proper channels appropriately and to be as thorough as possible.

“That is why we have set up various channels for the public to lodge their complaints.

“But if the complaint is too general, then it will also be difficult for the ministry to investigate,” he said. — DayakDaily
