Sibu, Miri, Kuching top 3 districts with most cases as Sarawak records 698 new Covid-19 infections

KUCHING, May 28: Sibu, Miri and Kuching are the three districts with more than 100 new daily Covid-19 cases as Sarawak reported 698 new infections today, taking the cumulative number of positive cases in the State to 45,436.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update report on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak revealed that 401 cases or 57.45 per cent of the total number of cases were identified in Sibu, Miri and Kuching.

Sibu topped the list of daily infections with 159 cases followed by Miri (125), Kuching (117), Bintulu (43), Lubok Antu (39), Bukit Mabong (35), Kapit (33), Samarahan (29), Sri Aman (27), Betong and Sarikei (16 each), Kanowit (11), Song (9), Subis (7), Selangau (6), Mukah and Meradong (4 each), Julau and Tatau (3 each), Daro, Saratok, Belaga, Sebauh and Beluru (2 each), while Pakan dan Dalat have one case each.


Of the figure, SDMC informed that 69 cases were symptomatic while 513 cases were individuals who have been moved into quarantine.

A total of 474 cases were detected from individual screenings with close contact to positive cases, 134 cases from other screenings in healthcare facilities, 51 cases from symptomatic screenings, 38 cases were from active clusters screenings and one domestic import case.

Sarawak also reported four Covid-19 fatalities out of which three were in Sri Aman and one brought-in-death (BID) case from Kuching, thus bringing the death toll to 276.

With one new cluster declared dubbed the Tengah Hulu Gedong Cluster in Simunjan and Sungai Gemuan Cluster in Meradong officially ended, there are still 85 active clusters in Sarawak.

Of the number, 10 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections with 39 more cases.

A total of 581 recoveries reported today brought the cumulative number of recoveries to 37.375 or 82.26 per cent of the total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

There are still 7,684 active cases in Sarawak who are still receiving treatment and being isolated in various healthcare facilities and quarantine centres. — DayakDaily
