KUCHING, May 28: Sarawak will open up new vaccination centres (PPVs) to speed up the vaccination of industrial and plantation workers.

National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (Pick) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said a coordinating committee has been set up to implement the PPVs.

“These PPVs will be set up in situ at industrial areas, be it at the factories or plantations. Hence, the workers do not need to go to other public PPVs to receive their Covid-19 vaccines,” he said.

He told this at a press conference after co-chairing a meeting between the National Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) and the State CITF together with Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

When asked whether there will be a plan to extend this to personnel working at large scale commercial areas, Khairy said the federal government is currently looking at in situ immunisation for places with many people.

“I have recently had a discussion with the Malaysian Shopping Mall Operator Association where they are also offering their shopping malls to conduct immunisation of their retail staff. So we can offer the same services to Sarawak as well.

“As long as there is a lot of concentration of workers, we can set up (PPV) quickly and we can get the private general practitioners (GPs) in to do the inoculation. The main thing is that we want to do this (vaccination) as quickly as possible,” he added. — DayakDaily
