DARO, Oct 26: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit – Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol hopes that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob can channel large allocations to fishermen and farmers in the 2022 Budget which will be tabled at the end of this month.

According to a report by Ukas, the Semop assemblyman also said that the distribution of the large allocation should be done in appreciation of the sacrifices of fishermen and farmers, and to strengthen the role of the groups.

“I hope the Prime Minister can channel a large budget for fishermen and farmers throughout the country through departments in each State so that these aids can reach the grassroots level.

“Fishermen and farmers are also ‘frontliners’ in the context of distributing food to every house in the State and country. I think their sacrifices should be appreciated and their role should also be strengthened,” he told Ukas at the presentation of a special sampan license and equipment assistance at Kampung Betanak Hall, Pulau Bruit, Daro yesterday (Oct 25).

The event was organised by Sarawak Marine Fisheries Department in helping fishermen in the Pulau Bruit area.

Its deputy director Liza Long said the appointment of 27 fisheries network heads of Matu Daro and Pulau Bruit was to act as the department’s eyes and ears in identifying the problems faced by the fishing community.

She further explained that the assistance aims to provide facilities for fishermen to carry out their daily work and further help entrepreneurs of downstream fishermen’s products. — DayakDaily
