KUCHING, May 8: Sarawakian athlete Grace Wong won gold in the hammer throw event at the SEA Games at Morodok Techno Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia today.
The Sarikei-born girl managed to set a new tournament record with a throw of 61.88 metres.
The new record erased her own personal best of 59.64m, which she achieved at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
Malaysian athlete Nurul Hidayah Lukman won bronze with a throw distance of 49.61m.
Meanwhile, the silver medal was secured by Thailand’s Mingkamon Koomphon (57.62m).
Wong previously won the gold medal at her appearance at the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur before repeating the achievement in Hanoi last year.
She is also the national record holder with a record of 62.48m set at the Malaysian Grand Prix (GP) two years ago. — DayakDaily
