KUCHING, Aug 11: All sports facilities currently undergoing upgrading and refurbishment works in Sarawak, including the Sarawak Stadium, are targeted for phased completion in the first quarter of 2027, well ahead of the 2027 SEA Games scheduled to take place in September that year.
According to a post shared on its social media today, Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak director Datu Ir Cassidy Morris recently conducted a working visit to several sports venues being upgraded as part of the State’s preparations for hosting the regional sporting event.
The visit was aimed at reviewing the progress of the projects and ensuring that all works are being carried out according to approved plans, schedules and specifications.
Among the projects inspected was the Sarawak Stadium Upgrading and Refurbishment Project, which has recorded physical progress of 22.55 per cent and is expected to be completed in January 2027.
Cassidy also visited the Stadium Perpaduan Refurbishment Project, which has achieved 13.31 per cent progress and is scheduled for completion in February 2027.
The Lawn Bowl Arena Refurbishment Project is also progressing satisfactorily and is expected to be completed in January 2027, while the Wushu Training Centre Upgrading Project is slated for completion in February 2027.
Meanwhile, upgrading works at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) complex are proceeding according to schedule and are expected to be completed in March 2027.
During the visit, Cassidy stressed the importance of effective coordination among all stakeholders to ensure that the projects are completed within the stipulated timeframe without compromising quality and safety standards.
He also reminded project teams, consultants and contractors to maintain the momentum of implementation and to address any issues that could potentially affect project progress so that corrective measures can be taken promptly and effectively.
JKR said the completion of all upgrading and refurbishment works by the first quarter of 2027 would provide sufficient time for final preparations, inspections and testing to ensure the facilities are in optimal condition before the commencement of the 2027 SEA Games. — DayakDaily
