KUCHING, May 24: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Bersatu (PBDSB) wants the federal government to reconsider its offer of scholarships to Palestinians.
PBDSB Information chief William Mangor said Putrajaya should prioritise local students before helping foreigners.
“There are a lot of struggling Malaysian students, including from Sarawak, who need to cope with the fees and need for education. Most of them, especially those in the interior, don’t know where to get the right financing.
“But they are not the government’s focus. Where is the government’s intention for our students that have outstanding results?” William asked in a statement today.
He was commenting on Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s announcement on Wednesday (May 22) that the government was willing to offer scholarships to Palestinian students who want to pursue Bachelor, Masters and PhD courses at 12 Malaysian universities.
William said he believed that humanitarian aids would always bring good impact but the government should manage their own backyard issues first before handling others.
“Even the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) issues are still not resolved, and now we want to do something else. Charity should start from home,” he reiterated. — DayakDaily
