KUCHING, July 10: Sarawak’s traditional tattoos symbolise the uniqueness of the various races and cultures in the State.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Counselor Tan Lek Jin, who represented Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) Dato Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, said the general perception that those who have tattoos are bad people is not true.

“Instead, the tattoo is a symbol of the culture of each race in Sarawak and, of course, Sarawak is special,” he said.

Tan said this when officiating at the Tattoo Festival 2022 organised by the Kenarau Miri Traditional Art Sculptors Association in Miri on Saturday (July 9).

Meanwhile, 56 tattoo artists participated in the three-day Tattoo Festival 2022 (July 8 until July 10), including 10 organisations.

Also present was Miri Kenarau Traditional Art Sculptors Association chairman Sylvester Juli. — DayakDaily
