Sarawak’s Covid-19 death toll passes 400-mark after 5 more fatalities reported

KUCHING, June 26: Sarawak’s Covid-19 death toll has breached the 400-mark, after five more fatalities were reported today.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC)’s daily updates on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, four fatalities were recorded in Sibu Hospital and one in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), thus pushing the death toll to 401.

Four of the victims were male and one female, aged between 57 and 85, with comorbidities.


For the sole death reported in SGH, the deceased was a 67-year-old man from Lubok Antu who tested positive for Covid-19 on June 25. He was comorbid with hypertension and dyslipidemia.

As for the fatalities in Sibu Hospital, two elderly males, aged 85 and 77, were from Kanowit who tested positive on June 8 and June 19 respectively.

The 85-year-old deceased was comorbid with hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia, while the 77-year-old had hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease and chronic lung disease.

The other two fatalities involved a 72-year-old female who tested positive on June 8 with comorbidities of hypertension and dyslipidemia; and a 57-year-old man who was found positive on June 18 with comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Both deceased were from Sibu.

Meanwhile, Sarawak also recorded 421 daily recoveries. This thus raised the total recoveries to 52,218 or 82.48 per cent of the total positive cases in Sarawak.

However, there are still 10,545 active cases still receiving treatment and being isolated at hospitals and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) throughout the State.— DayakDaily
