KUCHING, May 17: The unity of Sarawakians is the most powerful weapon in the ongoing effort to reclaim the State’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), says Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.

Speaking at the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan Branch’s Pre-Gawai 2025 programme in Sibu yesterday (May 16), Dr Annuar stressed that the real strength of Sarawak lies in its harmonious multi-ethnic society, comprising more than 27 ethnic groups, which must stand firmly behind the State leadership in negotiations with the federal government.

“Nothing is stronger than our own unity. We must stand united in reclaiming our rights under MA63. Our leaders are negotiating, and we as the people must rally behind them,” he said, as reported by TVS.

Dr Annuar who also serves as Nangka assemblyman, reaffirmed his commitment, in his capacity as a Deputy Minister responsible for education, to ensuring that Sarawak regains its education rights as outlined in MA63 and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report, particularly Paragraph 17.

“Sarawakians deserve the right to chart our own educational direction for the sake of our children’s future. This is my promise,” he asserted.

Turning to the upcoming Sarawak Election (PRN), Dr Annuar reminded all component parties within Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to reinforce cooperation to ensure another strong victory, similar to previous polls.

“We may feel at ease now with no strong voices from the opposition. But as the saying goes, don’t assume calm waters have no crocodiles. Sometimes, the real threat is not from outside, but from within—complacency and overconfidence. That is what we must guard against,” he warned.

Dr Annuar added that Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), as the backbone of GPS, will continue to support all component parties and ensure each candidate wins their respective seat.

Also present at the PDP event were Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and PDP president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, local leaders and community members from diverse backgrounds. — DayakDaily
