KUCHING, May 31: Sarawak’s youth bowling programme received a major boost after its teenage athletes delivered an impressive showing at the 44th Malaysian International Open Bowling Championships 2026, clinching one title and a runner-up finish against a strong regional field.
Leading the charge was Adriana Ramiza Ramulo, who emerged champion in the Women’s Graded Division, while Muhammad Isyraq Iqbal Ramadhan finished runner-up in the Men’s Graded Division at the prestigious tournament held at Sunway Mega Lanes, Sunway Pyramid, Selangor.
The championship, organised by the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) and recognised by the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) and International Bowling Federation (IBF), runs from May 25 to June 7 and attracts some of the region’s top bowlers competing across 10 divisions.
Adriana stood out as Sarawak’s top performer, producing a composed and consistent display throughout the competition to secure the Women’s Graded title on Saturday.
Her triumph not only earned Sarawak a coveted championship crown but also underscored the growing strength of the State’s youth bowling development programme.
Sarawak came close to celebrating a second title through Muhammad Isyraq, who battled fiercely in the Men’s Graded Division final before narrowly losing by just seven pins to settle for second place.
The result highlighted the youngster’s competitiveness and mental resilience under pressure against a high-calibre field.
Another Sarawakian, Shaun Hayden De Rozario, also impressed by finishing fourth, missing out on a podium place by only 19 pins after a strong performance in the final rounds.
The State contingent’s depth was further reflected in the number of athletes who advanced to the finals.
In the Women’s Graded Division, Khairina Fatihah Abdul Latif and Nur Fathi Fatihah Mohammad Zakry joined Adriana among the finalists, while Muhammad Isyraq, Shaun Hayden, Saiful Iman Shah, Eldred Kho Yek Zhen and Muhammad Akmal Hakim Rushdi all secured places in the Men’s Graded Division finals.
The results reinforced Sarawak’s reputation as a rising force in youth tenpin bowling, with multiple athletes demonstrating the ability to compete consistently at national and international-level competitions.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the Amateur Bowling Association of Sarawak (ABAS) congratulated Adriana, Muhammad Isyraq, Shaun Hayden and the rest of the Sarawak team on their achievements, while also acknowledging the contributions of coaches, officials, parents and supporters whose commitment continues to drive the sport’s development in the State. — DayakDaily
