KUCHING, May 21: More residents in Sarawak will now be eligible for assistance under the Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS) following an increase in the household income eligibility threshold to RM5,504.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) chief executive officer Fathi Hambali said the revision was introduced in response to the rising cost of living, allowing a wider group of Sarawak households to benefit from rental support.

“One of the key improvements is the increase in the household income ceiling from RM4,556 to RM5,504, which significantly broadens eligibility,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that the scheme has also been expanded to cover 10 districts, including Kuching, Samarahan, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Serian, Siburan, Sri Aman, Betong and Mukah.

In addition, the rental assistance period under SRAS has been extended from 36 months to 48 months, providing beneficiaries with longer-term financial support.

“This reflects the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to ensuring more people have access to safe and affordable housing,” Fathi added. — DayakDaily
