KUCHING, Aug 23: The Premier of Sarawak is expected to hand over the house keys, land titles and compensation grant to the first group of 337 households in the first phase of relocation to the Darul Hana Resettlement Scheme that has been rescheduled to this Saturday (Aug 27).

Deputy Minister for Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the handover, which was supposed to take place yesterday (Aug 22), has been rescheduled following the latest instruction from the Premier of Sarawak’s Office.

“In fact, the utilities to the residential (units) have been installed but considering the houses have not been occupied, therefore the meters for electricity and water are not connected yet due to vandalism cases previously.

“I was informed by HDC (Housing Development Corporation) yesterday (Aug 22) that previously, even the wiring and meter boxes were vandalised and damaged,” he clarified today following recent news reports of the handover of the properties being delayed due to unfinished installation of utilities.

He was met during his site visit to inspect the construction of a new stormwater drainage project for flood mitigation at Jalan Masjid here today.

Dr Abdul Rahman gave assurance that full utilities connection to the Darul Hana Resettlement Scheme which will welcome its first group of house owners will be done by Aug 25.

“The DBKU (Kuching North City Hall) will also be erecting streetlighting which is also expected to be completed in a couple of days’ time by Aug 25,” he added.
