KUCHING, June 20: The Sarawak government is looking into setting up of more drive-through vaccine administering centres (PPV) for Armed Forces veterans and the public following the success of PPV drive-through at the First Infantry Division of the Muara Tuang Camp at Kota Samarahan.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the drive-through PPV at the First Infantry Division of the Muara Tuang Camp has been set up to vaccinate Armed Forces personnel and their family members residing at the Camp.

As the Sarawak government aims to accelerate the vaccination for all residents, Dr Sim added the Sarawak government would facilitate the setting up of more drive-through PPV in the near future.

“(I) was told (that drive-through PPV) can vaccinate up to 1,000 per day (both sides of each car).

“(Drive-through PPV) initially (may be) for in-house, and later, (the service will be extended) for veterans and the public in the vicinity, in which Sarawak Government will facilitate as we want as many residents in Sarawak to vaccinate as soon and as fast as possible,” he said in a Facebook posting after visiting the drive through PPV at Muara Tuang Camp with Defence Minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday.

Ismail Sabri was on a working visit to Kuching to discuss about the vaccination programme for the people from interior and to brief Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Sarawak government on the involvement of the Armed Forces in the Combat Medic Vaccination Team (CMVT) in rural areas.

Apart from that, Dr Sim who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing, said more industrial PPV will be set up to speed up the vaccination process in Sarawak.

He noted that Sarawak is capable of vaccinating more than 50,000 people per day due to the setting up of various PPV such as public sector PPV which consisted of hospitals, health clinics, stadiums, PPV mobiles (outreach), PPV AstraZeneca, PPV Unimas, PPV private hospitals, PPV general practitioners and the latest PPV ATM drive-through.— DayakDaily
